How to sound like a native speaker

One of the most difficult aspects of learning a foreign language is getting the pronunciation right. In English, there are so many subtle speech sounds and patterns that it can feel a bit overwhelming. So, what can we do to get better?

Thankfully, there are some tricks that students can learn in order to improve not only speaking, but also understanding. As you will see, it’s especially important to figure out what groups of words are spoken with contractions, even if they aren’t written that way. When is the last time you heard a native English speaker actually pronounce every sound in the sentence “What did you do?”, for example? We’d have to recognize a pronunciation like “whadjudo?” in order to understand it!
